Anti-social behavior

If you are like me and are disappointed and disgusted by the many posts by a small band of anti-social individuals who do nothing except lower the level of interaction on these boards to the level of insults AND are disgusted by the lack of monitoring and or correction by individuals at Fodor's, please e-mail me your comments and I will collect them and take them to the offices of Fodors on an upcoming visit to NYC and demand that they do something to improve our overall experience at this site. Please help make this community a enjoyable one for everyone. My e-mail address for this purpose is: [email protected]. thank you.

Sorry, but I don't think that's a good approach. Believe it or not, the percentage of unpleasant and/or irrelevant posts on this forum is low by comparison. "Monitoring" and "enforcing posting guidelines" has all but elimated participation on what used to be lively and informative boards on AOL. There is so much valuable information to be acquired on these forums from serious and knowledgeable participants. It's not worth one's time and effort to obsess over a few posts - better to just ignore them and read on... And, each and every time I've brought a truly offensive post to the attention of Fodor's, it's been promptly removed. In that this website is loaded with useful and free information, I would hesitate to make "demands". Fodor's has done more than enough to make this an enjoyable experience. They may decide to discontinue the forums and/or the website altogether...

I agree with Donna. I happened onto this forum while researching my trip to Jamaica and manage to glean much in the way of valuable information. True there was some negative social commentary, but the majority quickly put these people in there place. After a good experience using this site, I am now trying to give a little back by providing some information on my home here in Alberta, as well as recent information from my trip to Jamaica. I sure appreciate what effort goes in to tracking messages and responses to postings.

Dear fodors poster, Donna, and Randy --

Thanks to all of you for your comments. We at Fodors.com do monitor the forums -- here it is Saturday afternoon and I'm perusing the threads -- and want all our visitors' experiences to be positive.

When we introduced the forums a few years back, the idea was that this was the space for travelers to talk to other travelers and that we'd try to keep our involvement to a minimum. So our first approach, unless someone is being really harsh or profane, is to let the forums users handle antisocial behavior themselves. In most cases, as Donna and Randy have pointed out, antisocial brush fires are put out before too long. But if any forums user finds a post obnoxious or otherwise, all she or he needs to do is e-mail us ([email protected]) and we'll investigate the problem immediately.

Yours truly,

Danny Mangin
Editorial Director, Fodors.com
I agree with the contention that this site is really valuable to travelers- so sick of guide books that don't really admit "rooms way too cramped", etc- thank goodness for the honesty and information on this site- one of the most valuable things i've found on the web, and i've searched a lot of it.

I agree. This is a great site. I have been browsing and replying on the site for a year and have found it most helpful in making travel plans. Lots of very knowledgeable travellers here.
-Dave-
www.CrazyAboutTravel.com

Knock it off, everyone. Let this drop to the bottom where it belongs.
