3 Days in Newfoundland

My husband and I are flying into St. John's on Wednesday, April 29th and leaving Saturday, May 2nd. What we know thus far: We have dinner reservations at Raymond's on the Friday. We'd like to stay outside of St. John's (up to a 4 hour drive, max) in a small inn or B&B for one night, somewhere that comes highly recommended (for accommodations AND location). And we want to see a few key, quintessentially "Newfoundland" things while we're here without taking up two days to drive to Gros Morne and back! Someone please give us an itinerary, because we just don't know where to begin!!!

That's early to see many of the quintessential Newfoundland things (bergs, whales and maybe puffins) and many tourist activities won't have started up yet (boat trips/hiking trails too wet/etc) or start on May 1.

My first inclination was to recommend driving to the Trinity area (3.5 hours) and stay at the lovely Fisher's Loft

But I see they're not open until May 1.

Given your brief time I might be inclined to stay in/around St. John's for all 3 nights and do day trips around the Avalon Peninsula - you could do a boat tour with this company on the Friday (weather permitting) - you might see puffins

More info about Avalon sites from the tourism website site (order the book)

Meant to post this - we had a fantastic meal at Raymond's - ask for the table with the moose antlers and see pics of food on our blog. We went with the tasting menu - worth it!
