What to do in Nadi, Fiji?

I'm going to be near Nadi for a couple of days in August. Does anybody have any recommendations on fun things to do??

In Nadi, and "near" Nadi are very different things. The town isn't that big so you're going to get through it quickly if you're there for more than one or two days. Of course run through the small shops and things there, buy a native craft or two as a present. Many times there are Beqa fire walkers at one of the area hotels. (try catching that as it's most unique) Otherwise get to other Fijians places. Perhaps a day trip out to one of the islands, glass bottom boat kind of thing. (perhaps a bit too touristy) There's not a lot to see at the sugar mills, mainly just an everyday business. (so there's something I don't really recommend) By all means go to the market on market day and people watch.

And of course, you're really in luck if you like spicy cuisine. ;-)

Jack's is the best store in town. You can spent a half day visiting the orchid gardens. A taxi will take you there and wait at a modest price. The gardens were created by Raymond Burr.

My advice is to get out of Nadi. What a pit. Go to a little island--any island.

We are actually planning to be at the Travelers Beach Resort near Nadi. I would prefer to go to an island or something, but after all the flying that we are going to do, I don't think I could stand to go on an extra flight. Why is Nadi a pit?
