I'm a rather big guy. Can big people fit thru the "squeezes" they talk about in the bridge literature. I didn't see anything about wiegth limits and although I am big, I am physically fit. Also I sort of have a fear of heights. How scary is it?

The path is much wider than you might expect and stories of people with fear of heights who have loved the bridge climb are legion. One of my friends is a case in point, said once he got going he simply forgot about it, was too exhilirated & amazed at the views to worry about it.

Hi Boose,
I guess 'big guy' is subjective. I am 6ft tall and 16st which is around 106kg.
I just have a big frame. And all muscle. ;-)..lol

However there were a couple of places I needed to take care but there was no where I wasn't able to get by.More height than anything. There are a few ladders to climb, but it's really no problem.

Perhaps you could judge based upon my slim figure. lol

We climbed it twice, once mid morning and the second mid afternoon.
First time my daughter was 5 months under the age to climb so she and Mrs Muck went shopping (it would have been cheaper to do the climb !!)

Second time we all climbed, Emma (my daughter) was quite apprehensive because of the height of the bridge but once she was tagged on to the guide rail there was no stopping her. My son thought it was fantastic both times. In fact next time we get to Sydney we will do it all over again, although possibly at dawn or dusk hopefully darkness and light will add a new dimension to the climb.
But we all loved it and have the photos up on the wall even today.

Funnily enough, I haven't yet, but have given quite a few away to clients over the years & the feedback has always been great. Was all set to go up about 6 wks ago & something came up so gave my ticket to aforementioned friend. I was given one for my birthday & thought I might take it between Christmas & NY, which was why I was interested in what time you went.

I'm tossing up between the first of the day & twilight.

I think for the first time, I was glad to go in the full daylight views were fab as you would expect and providing the weather is good then its great. 2nd or 3rd time you look at it differently then night n day would be really interesting.

I asked if you have done it because there are loads of things here in Cardiff that I have never done..lol
we tend to go everywhere else except where we live...human nature i suppose.

I'm doing the Bridge Climb on Dec. 29. Can't Wait! Can't Wait. I thought the visibility would be better at around 10:30 a.m. It better not rain.

I don't remember any tight squeezes. My husband is 6'3" and he had no issues.
I myself have some fear of heights, specifically with being high and looking down. For me the beginning was a bit scary since you're walking on metal grates (another thing I don't like) high above the road and can see through where you're walking to the car below. Then you climb several ladders and climb on the arch of the bridge. This part was a breeze, just like walking on a solid, less-steep staircase.

wally, we are doing the bridgeclimb on the 29th as well! We are later on though, I think at 5:15pm. You're right, it better not rain!
DH is 6'4" so I will report back about any height issue.

I don't recall any issues about size(and I have some) or height. Scared og heights - this shouldn't be an issue either - but decide that befoe you book - there's no refunds.

Just a commonsense reminder - at this time of year, visibility is good from 5.30am, and you may be bloody hot in that zoot suit in the middle of the day. Early or latish would be best.

I've done it (but only once!) - it's a great experience.

Thanks for all the repsonses. It sounds like this is clearly doable for a robust, big guy who will probably love talking about after it's over better than actually doing it. Sounds like a real experience.

Boose-- I am reporting back. Tim, who is 6'4" had no problems fitting through the "squeezes." If you're fit, you'll be fine! I hope you have a great time-- we did.

Most of the climb is stairs. There is plenty of room. There is one place that you climb a ladder. Acually it is several ladders all together, but you climb them one person at a time and no one is rushing you. As far as fear of falling, you are strapped to the bridge at all times. There is no way you can fall. My husband is scared of heights, but loved the bridgeclimb. It is a once in a lifetime adventure.

The bridge climb is really expensive. Plus, you can even take your camera up with you to take some nice pics; you're stuck buying their very expensive photos. Instead I found this other thing on the bridge. Although not as cool as climbing to the top of the bridge, it is an easier, cheaper, quicker alternative for some great views.

Thanks everybody for the replies. Now I'm getting really close to Sydney so I need to make a decision. It sounds like you all think that a 270 lb guy who happens to be fit(runs 20 miles per week)and who is afraid of heights can do this? Any other comments?
