A Chuckle for you in New Zealand and in Australia

I just had to share this story. A dear friend who has not travelled very much called me tonight and while talking she told me that her brother and sister-in-law were taking a vacation for a week to visit New Zealand and Australia. Evidently their previous trips out of California or should I say outside of the USA have been to the west coast of Mexico and the west coast (BC of course) of Canada.
Anyway, when she said a trip for a week to New Zealand and Australia I asked something along the lines of "so they will only have a week in New Zealand and a week in Australia?". Dead silence and than she responded that they would have one week to visit New Zealand and Australia. I said something along the lines of "that is impossible what with the long flight from here (here being San Francisco) to New Zealand and than onto Australia and home again in just a week. Her response was that that they thought it would work out just fine as New Zealand was just across the river from Australia.

Just across the river??? Well further conversation determined that they had not yet made their reservations. LOL, I rather suggested that she suggest to her relatives they might seriously want to do some further research before booking their flights. Don't you Kiwi's and Ozzie's think that would be a good idea?

Honestly, I am still shaking my head in wonderment and chuckling to myself and thought I would share this scenerio will all of you down under. Cheers! P.S. I can't help but think what our late NeilofOz would have to say about this itinerary.

Actually, probably not impossible if all they want to see is the inside of the airports.

Reminds me of the non joke about what is the difference between a missile and US high school graduates at the beginning of the invasion/liberation of Iraq.

Neil would have had something witty to say.

Tasman Sea is a mighty big "river", Love Italy! First time I went to Auckland was by ship and it took 3 days from Sydney.

An update. Above mentioned friend called me a bit ago. She is having dinner with her brother and sister-in-law this weekend as it is her sister-in-law's birthday. My friend went to our local book store and purchased a world atlas for her sister-in-law's birthday present. She had fussed about what to give her and suddenly, due to our conversation last evening, she suddenly got the idea which is a good one I would think. She had me chuckling as she also bought a lovely bookmark ans she said she is going to put it in the book for the Australia-New Zealand section. I think or hope that this couple discovers how big "the river" is, pat.

I thought so also, Aussie, and my friend was over the top happy when I told her that. We chatted for a few minutes tonight and she said to me "do you think they will get the hint?". Well hopefully or as AlanGJ said all they will see is the inside of airports, lol.

It is not a river. It is a pond.

Reminds me of when I told an employer about my upcoming vacation to Europe. He asked whether I was planning to drive -- from Philadelphia (in the US).

He wasn't kidding.

It's not a pond - it's a ditch!

We could do with a laugh! Qhat with drought followed by torrential floods, and our cricketers being walloped by the bloody Poms, things are a bit grim!
