I did see the VAustralia fares but have decided against it. The direct flight is 13 hours and the lowest total travel time on V with the layover in Sydney is 21 hours. It's not worth it to me, especially since our time is so limited. I also have arthritis in my lower back and sitting for 13 hours is going to be difficult enough. But it is a heck of a deal for those who can bear it!

We're thinking of changing our trip to April due to my husband's work schedule, which would be a real pain since I've already booked all of the accommodations. Would we be able to swim in the Bay of Island and Coromandel and Abel Tasman in April or would it be too cool? Also would airfare be a lot cheaper? What should we expect to pay for April?

Would anyone know how to book a flight as jersey1977 suggested through VAustralia/Emirates? We are looking to travel in Feb/March as a family of 4 and would love to find tickets under $1000pp round trip. Thank you.
