Weather in Australia in June/July?

Hi all!

Seems like OZ is a very popular honeymoon destination!

I am planning honeymoon for myself. Getting married in October 2002, but my fiance is finishing a medical residency, and cannot go on the honeymoon until the end of June or July 2002.

I have read that the best time to go is in Sept/Oct. so am worried that we will not have great weather if we go in June or July.

We are planning on visiting the following places:

1) Sydney
2) Great Barrier Reed (either Lizard or Heron Isldand)
3) Daintree (I think Silky Oaks Lodge)

Can you please tell me what type of weather I can excpect during June/July, and any caveats.

Just want to make sure our activities won't be spoiled by inclement weather - been saving for a very long time! We may even add on New Zealand or Bora Bora if we can save up enough $$.

Thanks a mil!

Lia,

My wife and I just got back from Oz, where we went to Sydney, Lizard Island, and Daintree over 2 weeks. We were there the last 2 weeks of July. Overall the weather was great! For 4 days in Sydney it was 60 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. About 10 degrees cooler in the Blue Mtns. I hear that Sydney weather can be fickle that time of year. When we returned to Sydney the day before we left to come back to the US, the weather was about 55 degrees, rainy, with gale force winds! Lizard Island and Daintree were delightful - both about 78-82 degrees and sunny. The water temperature at Lizard was chilly (75-77 degrees)- we needed wetsuits to snorkel if we were in the water over 20-30 minutes. At Daintree it was mostly sunny with a periodic afternoon shower one or two days - nothing to worry about.

We loved OZ - especially Lizard. It's the perfect honeymoon spot.

Please email with any other questions.

Winston

Lia,
We were in Cairns/Port Douglas/Daintree in June and it was warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirts every day but not hot. The water was cold but we still swam. We had a couple of days in Cairns where it rained (fine misty rain) on and off all day but it didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. We ate outside just about every night but needed long sleeves (a light cardigan/windcheater would do).
Kay

June - July shouldn't be too bad if you stay north. Winston is right, Sydney can be fickle - could be perfect, you never know. Just don't expect tropical weather in our winter. (Pretty chilly if you ask me!)

What about Uluru, Katherine, Darwin, or Broome at that time of year?

Good luck planning and congratulations!

Hi

I live in Sydney and I can say that definitely June and July are hot and miss as it is the middle of Winter. You may well get blue skies and temps of 60-70 degrees but you could also get rain every day and temps around 50. Just dont let weather spoil your trip - there is loads to do if it isnt sunny anyway. Temperatures in Northern Queensland, Uluru and other northern areas will be much higher. Darwin is scorching all year round. I had friends come over at the end of May and they had rain almost every day, even at Uluru where it rains about 7 days a year(!)but they still loved it.
