Visas????

I am planning on going to work in Oz NEXT winter. I was wondering if anybody knew how long it took to get a visa, and how soon you have to use it, how long you get etc... <BR>Any information would be grately recieved. <BR>Thanks in advance, Elise.

It's not that easy if you are a US citizen, and plan to work in Australia. You need to contact the Australia embassy in the US, to get the details, but you cannot just go down there and get a job. They are very restrictive, and you probably have to have an employer sponser you. Good luck. If you are going to just visit, the airlines will get you an electronic visas for free.

I don't think so. The Canadians, British, and others from the England Empire....seem to have no trouble. It really is a shame that they are so selective, because a lot of Americans would like to live there. That's another story. Check with the Australian embassy.

Check out Australia's immigration web site: www.immi.gov.au. It has information about working holiday visas (WHV). You basically have to be under 30 and have some finances and in good health and can work casually fro up to a year, but no longer than 3 months in any one job. WHV's are limited to select countries, but its nothing to do with the British empire, just countries that Australia has reciprocal arrangements with. UK, Netherlands, Ireland, Canada, Japan, Korea, and soon Germany.
