We are planning a trip to Vanuatu or Fiji and have heard that food prices are quite expensive at these destinations. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks<BR>Barry

I can't speak for Vanuatu but food in Fiji is relatively inexpensive/ fresh/good quality, especially seafood and fruit<BR><BR>Perhaps you need to do some more research and not rely on hearsay.

It relly would depend on the sort of holiday you were planning. If you're going to be staying in ***+resorts - the food will be expensive everywhere. Most of the Fiji resorts offer meal packages which make it less costly. We haven't been to Vanuatu for a number of years - but would choose Fiji everytime.

We have not been to Fiji, but have been to Hawaii, Tahiti, etc. We found the choice a bit limited on Vanuatu- but enjoyed delicious fresh lobster every night for a reasonable rate. They also had vanilla shakes to rival Tahiti's and cheese toasties and other "junk" food in town and at the hotels.

I have just returned from a week in Vanuatu. Lovely place to visit but March is not the best month weatherwise .. extremely humid and hot.<BR>Food wasn't overly expensive, if from NZ&lt; expect to pay similar prices as home (maybe pay more for imported goods ) if from USA, you will find good deals everywhere with the exchange rate in your favour.

Barry,<BR><BR>You haven't received very good advice. Fiji offers a wide variety of choices in terms of both accomodations and food. Everything from ultra-exclusive like Malcom Forbe's place, to back packer hostels. If you stay at an exclusive resort, then yes it could be expensive. But it doesn't have to be depending on where you stay.<BR><BR>Vanuatu is an interesting place but the choices of accomodations are not so plentiful as it's not set up really for the tourist trade but people with business in the area. Don't let me stop you from going, but you should understand that. Accordingly you will not find all of the really expensive choices you would in Fiji or certainly Tahiti.
