Vahine, Manihi, Bora Bora, Moorea

We are planning a vacation to French Polynesia in the Spring of 2000.

Has anyone stayed on Vahine or Manihi?
Any comments, suggestions?

Also, if you had 7 days for Bora Bora and Moorea, how would you split the time up?

Any suggestions or comments are welcome!!!

Yes, we spent a week at Manihi in 1985. What do you want to know and do you speak french?

We spent 4 nights of our 10 day honeymoon on Vahine Island Resort. While the location was beautiful(especially our over-the-water bungalow), the management was extremly rude. The resort is very French and I gather that not many Americans go there. We definitely did not feel welcome. There is not much too do on the island and only one restaurant. Bring some food with you, the restaurant is expensive and not very good.

I would do 4 days Moorea, 3 days Bora Bora. Moorea is much more affordable, and is larger. There is a bit more room to explore. Check out the trip reports for details.

http://www.diveatlas.com/travel/Inde...hPolynesia.asp

Scott

As you read through many of the comments in this section, you will see a lot of various comments. It seems as though you need to have very recent updated info because things change rapidly. I am choking when I see people rave about Morea Beachcomber because it was the worst hotel in the world that I ever visited, for that price or even a fraction of the cost. I just came back from FP and heard nothing but bad things about the Beachcomber. Unless you like a Disney atmosphere (with food to match) don't go there.

As for Vahine Island, I also spent one week there and while it is true that the pace is slow, the food is among the best in the islands and the couple who run the island are about as nice as can be. During our stay there were Americans, French, Mexicans, Peruvians, Italians and Swedes. Only those people looking for crowds didn't like it. The food cost is reasonable, as compared to food in FP.

As for splitting your time between BB and Moorea, I think that I would add a few more days and then do three days each in those islands, plus one other island in the area.
