Tasmania - hotel recommendation in Port Arthur

Need suggestions for a hotel or B&B place in Port Arthur for 2 nights?

We have reservations for 3 nights at the Feycinet Lodge and then 2 nights at Hotel Grand Chancelor in Hobart.

Then flying to Melbourne, where we will stay at the Melbourne Ramada.

Read input from other fodorites about the Russell, Feycinet and Grand Chancelor so I think we have made good choices.

Also, interested in any suggestions/comments/advice about the places we have reservations.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

I presume that you will be driving?????
If so there is the loveliest B&B just north of P.A within 10 mtrs of a little bay and it looks about mid 1800's. I have stopped there twice to look at it and thought that that is exactly where I would stay if I were staying overnight. Now the problem is that I cannot remember what the name of it is but I will do a search in the next couple of days and try and find it because I am sure you would find it just perfect and even better if you want to throw a line from their jetty and sit and listen to the water.
Perhaps others may have seen it - its on the right hand side not far from the animal zoo and has several dormer windows in the roof line.

What do you know! I have found it -

It was a convict built place and there is a lovely photo of it.
Let me know what you think

just got back from 9 days in tasmania - we were going to stay at the freycinet lodge but found something better a few km before it - nothing against the lodge, but the rooms are expensive and somewhat dated, not much of a view, and very activities-based...if you want a much nicer room with a view and solitude check out the edge of the bay resort just before coles bay - the lodge was 240 - these were 220 first night then 180 second night on - this was our favorite place and we were in australia/tasmania for 24 days - nice beach right out front also

Thank you Janese for your suggestion and for coming up with the website address also. The place looks lovely and I was all excited to tell my husband about it when I got home from work. Unfortunately, he had just made a call and finalized reservation for the Osprey Lodge that morning. It seems he was doing a bit of research work on the internet himself and found this lovely place not far from Port Arthur.

Also, thank you Bill for your suggestion of the Edge of the Bay. We checked out their website and the place is quite inviting so we will be calling them tomorrow and hope to see if we can get reservations there!

Now that we have our hotel and car rental accomodations taken care, we are getting very excited about our holiday. Thanks again for your helpful replies.

Hi Portobello!

Good suggestions all, but I'm sure that you will enjoy your stay at Osprey..I stayed there last year - say hello to for me! They have a lovely spot there with a wonderful view, and Bill's quite the chef!
