Noosa Head - worth a visit from Sydney?
We are planning a trip to visit family in Sydney for 3 weeks in July. we'd like to take off somewhere in the middle week. Is noosa worth a visit? we would like some sun but at 54 and 55 we also like to sight see and experience a little culture.
Any other suggestions for a weeks visit?

I've been to Noosa in July, its warm but not hot, for me you need a heated pool.
Also to see anything you really need a car, there is not much in Noosa except cafes and hotels. There is the Australia Zoo and Eumundi markets which are good, although I went there to play golf.
Personally I would head north to Cairns, its warmer and IMHO more cultural and interesting things to see and do

Hi cpts,
I think Noosa is fabulous in July. Not much to do??? Noosa National Park, Main Beach, Noosa River, I think you should visit http://www.visitnoosa.com.au before you decide to drive past. The reason there are hotels and cafes in Noosa is because it is a great place. I guess Cairns doesn't have hotels...
Cairns doesn't even have a beach does it? I have been there once before and have no interest in going back.

Noosa has a beautiful beach. It is an upmarket resort town with quite a few restaurants, shops and cafes. It has become a bit commercialised in the last few years but compared to Sydney it is definitely still a small town. July is winter in Australia so depending on what you're used to, the water might be a bit too cool for swimming. Still, it is sunny year round.
Cairns on the other hand doesn't have a natural beach. There is a foreshore development which has swimming lagoons overlooking the sea. And you can always swim in the pool at your hotel. You can also visit the Great Barrier Reef from there but as I said it may be a bit chilling swimming in the ocean. It is definitely bigger than Noosa and there is more to do such as visiting the rainforests.
If you just want to chill out on the beach go for Noosa - and book in at a hotel with heated pool. If you want want to visit the rainforest, great barrier reef visit Cairns - you can always swim in the hotel pool or in the foreshore lagoons.
I hope that helps.
