Tasmania - 10 day driving holiday

Hi All

Hubby and I are heading to Tassie in late April/early May in 2018 (finally).

We have our first 3 nights booked in Hobart. However, I now need to figure out what we do for the remaining 9 nights. We fly out of Launceston and have a car.

We in our late 30's, love wineries, gourmet food and beautiful scenery (I know that will be hard to find in Tassie ). I would love to hear any suggestions of what we should see or do.

Thanks.
Rellie

I'm not an expert on Tasmania. So I have only a couple of suggestions for you. I've only been there once, but if you like wine, I'd reserve a day for wine tasting along the Tamar River Valley (close to Launceston).

Also, don't miss Freycinet National Park:

We did a road trip up the east coast in November 2016. A highlight for me was Bruny Island for the best oysters I’ve ever had at Get Shucked, plus great cheese at Bruny Island cheese company. Try a scallop pie at a local bakery in one of many small towns, and book a few days in advance for some popular restaurants in Launceston. There’s more details in a trip report “Tasting Tassie” you can find under my name. As long as you don’t coincide with Easter or school holidays, booking ahead is not necessary. The local visitors information centres are a wealth of knowledge and free advice, sometimes they will book accommodation for you.

If you've done the east coast the have your considered getting a campervan and going west or south? There's lots of little places to get away from it all in those directions and would benefit from a campervan where you can just get "lost" and go with the breeze.
I spent a whole of January one year in a campervan around Tassie and it was so much fun. One of the best memories was down south where we met a guy who was packing up from a little site by the water as we stopped in for lunch. He said he had been picking oysters off rocks at low tide for the last 3 days and just living off them. We stayed and sure enough we picked a bunch of oysters, broke out a wine from the camper fridge and feasted on free oysters overnight. You never know who you're going to meet or what you might come across on those kind of trips. There's lots more stories, this is just one of them.
