Sydney - Russell Hotel

I will be in Sydney for 5 days in November and am considering the Russell Hotel because of price and location. Has anyone any experience with this hotel?

Laurie

I have no experience with the Russell personally (sorry) but I do know that many of the guidebooks recommend it. We will be in Sydney in July and are also interested in this hotel so if any one out there has any information, we would really appreciate it!

My parents stayed at the Russell, admittedly a couple of years ago, but they absolutely fell in love with it. It's within walking distance of the Rocks and Circular Quay (which now has some absolutely wonderful restaurants). Being near Circular Quay means you can catch ferries to Manly, Balmain or the Rivercat up to Parramatta and there's a train station at Circular Quay which will link you back to Town Hall, Central and from there the Darling Harbour area (or you can catch a bus on George Street up to Town Hall).

Enjoy! Sydney in November should be lovely and being after the Olympics we will hopefully have calmed down a little.

My husband and I stayed at the Russell in Oct. 1998. It's a very charming hotel, and location cannot be beat, but you might want to stay in one of the front rooms. They claim the back rooms are more quiet, but there is a disco club in the back alley and the noise was very loud all night.
