Sydney New Years Plans?

Crunch time. I will make my final payment tomorrow on my holiday trip to OZ. My wife, 13yr.old and I will arrive Dec.31st 3pm in Sydney. My plans now are to hang out on the rocks for the 9 and 12pm fireworks. If there is something else I need to know please share. Is there some arrangements I need to make b4 arriving? Restaurants, bars etc. around the rocks for reservations? I'm staying at the Renaissance and I can get the concierge to help on arriving if I need to. Any thoughts? Thanks, <BR>John

You will need to make New Years restaurant bookings fairly soon if you want to be at The Rocks. Maybe your hotel will email you a list....or do a search on www.citysearch.com.au Most rest. do a package deal on food for Xmas and NY you will find.

Thanks, I'm researching every day. I contacted my hotel and they are having a high dollar dinner and dance. So far I'm leaning towards "just" hanging around the rocks to watch the fireworks and people watch. May even knock back a few beers or so. We will arrive that pm and will probably just want to relax. Surely my 13 year old son can stay entertained while mom and dad relaxes. Thanks.

I don't know if it will be on this year, but previously there have been New Years concerts in the domain suitable for families. (Domain is pretty much in the centre of the city, your hotel will have directions) If not, then check for things going on in Hyde Park. Staying at the rocks is great, and there will be plenty to see and do, but always very crowded, you may consider going to the Botanic Gardens for good views. Check the Sydney Morning Herald closer to the date for details on where to view etc, www.smh.com.au. I wish I could be there!
