Richard: something different in Melbourne. When you arrive, catch the free tram and go around the city once or twice (slow trip but relaxing after your flight - ask directions at the hotel); also catch the tram 109 to Port Melbourne to view the bay, and eat fish and chips whilst there. Visit Captain Cook's cottage in the Fitzroy Gardens, East Melbourne and eat in the kiosk/cafe style restaurnt there. Great food, great wine and different atmosphere. Should you visit Sunday, you could alternatively have a huge seafood smorgesborg at the Hilton Hotel, 2 minutes away from the Fitzroy Gardens. You can buy a daily travel ticket, 2-hour ticket, city zone ticket - city office Swanston St, near Collins Street, east side. Transport map available there too. You can buy a ticket on board but only with coins. Hope this info is of help. By the way our weather is unseasonally good at present. Take a couple of summer outfits!!
Also, think of visiting Ballarat, where you can see Eureka Stockade site (read all about it from Google) and Sovereign Hill site. Trains leave from Spencer Street station (take note en route in the free tram)& return daily; also tourist bus trips - there is an evening show at Sovereign Hill also which is worth staying for if you felt inclined. Will give you a view of country Victoria. April 25th would possibly be a good day to visit B'rt - the city too will possibly have a march. Enjoy your stay in Melbourne.

Richard,
I've just finished reading your blog through your Tuesday 4/26 breakfast entry. What a great way to document your vacation. Thanks for sharing the link with us!
