South Island weather in March

Hi again, as my trip progresses I find that I will be in the South Island of New Zealand for a week in the middle of March. As my trip will encompass Queensland, Christchurch, Franz Josef, and Milford Sound; what kind of clothing should I pack?

You will find yourself in early springtime, with the possibility of snow at high altitudes, and cool to cold nights. There will still be snow on the ground at higher altitudes, and some of the ski areas may still be running. You will need a warm jacket and/or good rainjacket - you WILL get rained on!

I hate to be picky but would it not be very early Fall? I wonder if ski lifts will be running yet? The south Island does tend to be a bit cooler. Be sure to dress in layers such as you might do in the Rockies in Spring. I found having a good polar fleece jacket or heavy sweater over a cotton shirt and comfortable slacks was the best. You will love the south Island. Have fun.

Yeah, yeah, you're right! What was I thinking. It will be early Fall - no snow, nice weather, cool nights. Sorry.
