South Island Lodging Advice

I am looking for advice on places to stay on the South Island.

First, we need one night in Kaikoura. We will not have a car, so I wanted something walkable. I have narrowed it down to two choices - Anchor Inn Motel (gets good reviews, but further out?) and the White Morph Moter Inn apts (they have a more expensive option that includes a spa tub, which would be great.)

Second, I am looking for a place to stay in Christchurch at the beginning and end of the trip. Again, no car at this point, so downtown is best. I don't think we'll be in the place much, so I'm less picky about this, but for some reason I've been underwhelmed by my choices. Moderately priced spots include the Latimer Hotel, or Rydges. Forgot to mention, I want an ensuite bathroom too. Price somewhere from $125-$200 nz dollars would be good. Any ideas?

Third, Te Anau. I like two choices so far - Keiko's B&B or The Croft B&B. Any feedback on those or other spots?

And last, Wanaka (or environs). The Mountain Range Lodge looks lovely, or possibly the Homestead Lodge. I am willing to pay a bit more here as it's the end of our trip and our anniversary. A bathtub and/or fireplace would be great. Any ideas for other spots or advice on the above would be excellent.

We will have a car in the Te Anau/Wanaka areas.

Thanks as always.

1] Kaikoura – no help.
2] Christchurch - Take a look at Roma on Riccarton http://www.romaonriccarton.co.nz/ or the Lorenzo Motor Lodge next door. Though not in the CBD, it is an easy walk through the park to reach the Botanic Gardens and other points of interest.
3] Te Anau – The Antler Lodge http://www.antlerlodgeteanau.co.nz/ is in a nice quiet residential area with congenial hosts.
4] Wanaka – no help.

We've stayed at The Croft in Te Anau and absolutely loved it. The hosts are lovely people and the accommodation is excellent.

My review can be found here:

In Christchurch, we enjoyed our stay at Salerno Motel, with a few reservations (noise). Nice place though. Not sure how convenient it is w/o a car though.

We liked Willow Ridge in Wanaka, but unfortunately, they're no longer in business. I've just recently done some exhaustive research on Wanaka accommodation and I've booked us in at Alpine View Lodge for our NZ trip in June, primarily because it's convenient to Wanaka, yet it's in a quiet country setting, not right in town. It gets good reviews, but obviously we've not stayed there yet, so can't comment.

My second choice was The Hayloft, but the Alpine View won out.

In Christchurch I prefer to stay as close to the Botanic Gardens as possible, rather than the center at Cathedral Square. This also puts you closer to two good museums (the Art Museum and the Canterbury Museum) and the Arts Centre. It isn't a long walk to Cathedral Square either. There are a number of B&Bs on Armagh, those with ensuites include the Grange, Croydon, and the Devon.

Thanks so much. I like Roma on Riccarton, we don't mind walking a bit. And I think The Croft in Te Anau too. I booked the Anchor Motor Inn in Kaikoura, so it's just down to the last decision in Wanaka. You guys are great!
