How very sad for you to need to be so negative about such a fun topic.

Have been home from Moorea less than one week. We stayed at the Sofitel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The accomodations were not the plush, 5 star variety. We stayed in a fare with a thatch roof, porch and ceiling fan. Now I'm bothered by the heat more than most people, and I had not trouble with it. By most mornings, we had the blanket pulled up. It just depends on what you want. If you want plush carpet and fine decor, go someplace else. We loved it (and saw no bugs) and would go back in a heartbeat. If you DO go there, walk to end of beach area - past the public beach. There is a small guesthouse and restaurant there. Reasonably priced and excellent food.

Tim,

You disappoint me. Where's all the wit and charm you demostrated in your previous posts? I hate to see you end on such an anti-climatic note. Surely you can do better.

Dee,

Which direction on the beach do we walk to the small restaurant? Do they serve lunch and dinner? How about a nearby market? Any other food recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.

The restaurant is to the left as you face the water. It's about a 15 minute walk. The couple who run it are French he'd been a chef on the French Riviera. She speaks good English and is a charming lady. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure. The market was a distance - we rented a car one day - they drive on the right as we do in the States. However, along the road - tothe left when you leave the driveway (again about 5-10 minutes from the driveway) there is a stand that sells pineapple and bananas and other "stuff". You have to buy a pineapple. We'd sit on our porch and cut it up and eat it for breakfast. Any other questions, e-mail me, I'll try my best to answer them.

Forget to mention - they serve lunch and dinner both. If you like to try new foods - the Sofitel (and everyplace) serves poisson cru which is raw fish marinated in line juice and coconut milk. Sofitel made it the best. Raw fish doesn't do much for me, but THAT was pretty special.

I was thinking of the Sofitel in Moorea too. Any other experiences, good or bad?

Just enjoy and make your plans early, we couldn't get in making reservations 4 months in advance and I think they are full through Sept. 2000 right now.
