Sheraton Moorea

Is it worth it to spring for an overwater bungalow?

Not to brag, but my wife and I travel a lot on business and pleasure. We have logged over 25 trips to Europe in last 10 years. We had the good fortune of going to Moorea in March and staying at the Sheraton. My wife still talks about this trip and the great over the water rooms. They made the experience fantastic plus you can walk right outside your room to a private deck and step into shallow snorkeling water. You can also have the canoe bring you breakfast room service. If you are going this far, spring for the room over water. They have a clear glass set under the table in the room where you can watch the fish go by at night. We had #98 and want to go back again. Is it worth it? YES!

You could always stay in a regular room and just do the overwater bungalow the last couple of nights. Depends on if you can afford the overwater for the whole time.

We didn't stay at the Sheraton (we stayed at the Sofitel) but I agree, we will never forget our stay, and the overwater bunalow was very much worth the money. It was very romantic to stand on the deck at night and watch the water. The water glows around the bungalow as there are lights underneath so even at night you can see in the water. It was windier out over the water but given the temperature some days, it became a blessing. If you can afford it, do it. BUT don't decide not to go because you can't afford it. Get a garden or beach bungalow and go to paradise.

I agree 100% with Shera's last statement. Stay in a cheaper place if you have too. There are much less expensive places to stay besides the big resorts - though they are somewhat hard to find on the web. Stay in an overwater if you can afford it (just because the experience is so different) - if only for a couple of nights - but go however you can. It is incredibly beautiful there - though remember: if you like to party, French Polynesia is probably NOT for you. It's very quiet there.

Ken
