Sebel Reef House, Palm Cove
Hi there, I know there's been lots of feedback on this property in Palm Cove, Cairns, but I'm just wondering if anyone has stayed there recently, and specifically, what rooms are best for a romantic honeymoon! My fiance and I will be starting our trip there, then going on to Lizard Island, then a week at a private home near Mossman Gorge, then a week in Sydney. Any suggestions on super-romantic hotels there with a view would be great! Thank you.

I didn't stay at the Sebel House in Palm Cove but I did see it as we headed to the Novatel in Palm Cove. It's a lovely property, as are all the Mirvac properties. We did, however, stay at Mirvac's Quay West apartments at Circular Quay in Sydney. I can only say that it is the loveliest, most beautiful view I've seen. I CAN recommend it highly.

I stayed at the Reef House last September. The rooms in the front would have the best view as many of the inside rooms overlook the pool. Huge palms block the view to the ocean. I would definately get a patio or porch however. Ask the staff; they are very friendly.

Personally I really wouldn't stay at Palm Cove at it is tiny. Port Douglas is much better ( stay at the Peninsula hotel or Beaches which are right on the waterfront).PD has loads of good restuarant and shops to wander around and lots of trips to the GBR and Cape trip/ Daintree all go from there - has much more ot offer with same seafront views. We also stayed at lizard (and definitely prefered the anchor bay suites - see revious post). Re Sydney - we stayed at the Park Hyatt and I don't think you can beat it for views or location - the rooftop swimming pool, although samll, was also a great bonus after a hard days sightseeing.

We just returned from 7 nights at the Sebel Reef House. We were on our honeymoon and had a great room. It was Room #238 - it's on the third floor (not sure how they have rooms with "2" on the third floor...!) and it was at the back of the property, sort of overlooking the pool area (blocked by the lovely palms). It was very quiet and a corner room. The only other room we saw that might have been better (and definitely more expensive) was one on the ground level that had its own hot tub on the patio. Very secluded and quiet. I agree that Port Douglas seemed to be more active but we wanted peace & quiet - the Sebel delivered that! (By the way, for a lovely dinner, go to the Colonies Restaurant which is in a shopping area next door to the Reef House. Romantic and the best Thai Curry Chicken on earth!)

Have fun - wish we were going back already!
