Chinese restaurant in Sydney
Just completed a one week vacation in Victoria and two in TAS. Had all kinds of cuisine for dinner with the exception of Chinese. We're now flying to Sydney and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good quality Chinese restaurant that is not terribly overpriced. We're staying at the Langham Hotel in the Rocks area and don't mind either walking or taking a short cab ride. Thanks

Golden Century in Sussex st Chinatown is excellent, particularly the fresh seafood. Try the XO sauce pippies.
More upmarket but excellent modern Chinese, Kylie Kwong's in Surry Hills is amazing, get there early they don't take bookings.

Spice Temple is great value if you have the banquet. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney.

Chinatown is a short bus or cab ride away from the Rocks, with lots of good choices. We like Golden Harbour in Dixon St for yum cha but most restaurants there seem to have spruikers out the front trying to attract people in, which to me is just annoying, so beware. There are any number of small hole-in-the-wall restaurants in the vicinity which cost next to nothing and have good cooking. I like the Chinese Noodle House, Prince Centre, Thomas St Haymarket. Don't be put off by its grotty appearance and be prepared to share a table. You will probably have to queue for a seat. Cheap as chips and great food. Also good is Zilver, which is higher-end, a little pricier, and you can do yum cha there or just a normal meal (477 Pitt St, tucked away in an office block, out of the Chinatown district a little bit). Lastly Din Tai Fung at World Square - I know, it's an international chain, but they just have fabulous dim sum, some with little pockets of scalding broth inside them. Well worth the queuing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I love yum cha and hope to try your suggestions on my upcoming trip.
I loved East Ocean -- but they've stopped the yum cha carts --and that was always fun. But it's still delicious.

Oh yes, I forgot about Din Tai Fung, absolutely brilliant and very reasonably priced. They have three locations now, one in the Food Hall in Westfield in the city.

Another modern Asian suggestion, Momofuku has opened a branch in Sydney Casino, if you want a real splurge, the food is incredible. Bookings are only taking a week ahead, they open at 10 AM each daySydney time.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We walked from the Langham to Chinatown and ended up at Golden Century. Really enjoyed the meal and was glad to walk back to the hotel after eating so much.

Was about to recommend Golden Century too and see someone else has. It's in the Chinatown area. There are lots of good ones in the main strip of Chinatown. I can't remember the places we normally go to. Golden Century often has a big wait.
Just thinking of it is making me hungry!
