Melnq8, I have the impression that Perth is positively crawling with British immigrants, so "loo" should be well entrenched there by now. Seth Efrikens too, I think, but I'm not sure what the appropriate term is for them.

It's almost as though all those eastward-heading migrants landed on the west coast and were too exhausted to go any further.

This is for Toucan, about travelling in America. We've found that supermarkets mostly have loos, and that they are easy to find as you travel, if it's too far to wait for the next fill-up at a garage, and are usually clean and convenient.

"Loo" is now in fairly common usage in NZ (and I use the word "common" advisedly).
When driving out in the wop-wops, the old addage of "Any tree is a lavatory" still applies. There is nothing dangerous here that will bite, sting or otherwise attack you if you wander off the road and duck behind a tree or bush. In some places, the sandflies make this an exercise in speed rather than indulgence, though.

Loo is commonly used in Sydney - even when you are in Woolloomooloo (or the 'Loo).
