Hi again Cribbylei !

Okay try Raglan Palm Beach motel - quiet location canoes and kayaks to borrow. Playground. Close to beach. Harbour views.

Raglan Sunset motel - central ( to small town ) location.

You could also try running a google search. Baches to rent raglan NZ.

Once again - that time of year - October you could turn up and check out whats available - perhaps only book ahead weekends.

Whatever you do, don't stay in Hamilton !!!! ( although we're staying there next weekend )

Thanks again Heathy! If you had a choice between staying in Rotorua or Taupo with the littlies, which one would you choose? Many thx again!

Good evening Cribbylei

A wee point to consider, October can be pretty chilly. Rotorua is generally always a couple of degrees warmer than Taupo. For this reason am going to recommend Rotorua.

There are at least two very good childrens playgrounds in Rotorua. One is on the lakefront and is always very busy, the other is at Kiarau park - this playground is in a very active thermal area so is rather unique.

Hire bikes ( with seats for the children ) and ride through the Whakarewarewa State Forest.

Take the gondola to the hill above Rainbow Springs. Your 4 year old will be able to luge with mum or dad. Sorry the wee one will have to sit this one out! There's a cafe - so no worries.

The animal park is situated behind this hill - feeding time for the lions is just after 2pm.

The Agrodome is a laugh. There will be spring lambs for the 4 year old to bottle feed.

There is an Aquaduck amphibian bus/ boat trip - haven't done this one - but looks ok.

Your 4 year old will probably enjoy the Buried Village. My children always enjoy this rather eerie place.

Loads more - but will stop here.

I think that if you stay in Rotorua you should definitely drive to Mount Maunganui - 1 hour.
Perhaps consider spending the night here. This will give you the opportunity to see a spectacular east coast beach. It's a complete contrast to the beaches on the west coast. The surf is ok - at times almost good. ( according to u know who ! )

Walk to the top of Mauao for sweeping coastal views towards the Coromandel Peninsular in the north and Whakatane - south. You may even be able to see White Island - a marine volcano.
This walk should be do-able for your 4 year old - I always find the promise of a chocolate bar at the top works well!

Salt thermal pools after your walk - and some rather funky cafes too. Very pleasant. GO THERE !!!!!!!
