Prices?
I have the Fodors guide to New Zealand 6th edition. I cannot find anywhere in the book what currency the prices quoted are in - New Zealand dollars or US dollars - they just show a $ sign .
Can anyone help me as its a very relavent point.
This is only a guess - albeit a good guess - those prices would be in New Zealand dollars. If the book is on NZ then the prices would also be. See Daddy taught me well. You will love the price differences there $150 NZ room comes back on your charge card as approx $60 US.
And, if you're still not sure - call Fodor's I'm certain they have a toll-free number.

I think the Fodors dollar signs show that the $$$$ are more expensive than the $$$ in the local currency. Check one of the many, many hotel web sites for the actual room rates. It has been my experience with other Fodor guides that the few times actual prices are quoted, they are in American Dollars. While I am visiting New Zealand next March, I haven't purchased that guide yet. I have been relying on the Internet and Fodors website.

Hi again Gerry. Fodor's DOES give 2, 3, 4 and 5 $ in reference to how pricey a hotel is. You can trust me when I say that hotels are very reasonable in comparision to US hotels. I returned 3 weeks ago - Rydges hotel in Christchurch cost me $65 US dollars per night. It was very nice 4 star I believe. You can also check for better rates at Wotif.com.au. Hotels will not be a big problem in the cities but out in the country - there aren't many. If you go to Franz Josef glacier book a motel in the village - everything else is a loooong walk. We averaged between 50 and 65 US dollars a night for hotels in NZ. ATM machines are available everywhere and there are internet cafes everywhere. you can stay in touch for $1 with family and friends. Another thought - take along a prepaid phone card - the rates will be much, much cheaper if you need to call home.

Please, Dugh, don't act like a rude and ignorant person just because you can hide behind the anonymity of the internet. You wouldn't talk like that to Gerry (whose question was very reasonable) if you were face to face with him, now would you? Don't answer "yes", or he might think all New Zealanders are like that and change his mind about visiting you!

you know, I believe most everyone told you that answer! And now you say you found the answer "NZ dollars" It's only a thought but maybe you should apologize to all those "NICE" people who took the time to respond and then you didn't really believe them...

I apologize to everyone, except you, who suggested that the answer was NZ dollars.
You, whomever you are, and as previously suggested by Alan, are hiding under the anonymity of the Internet, and should be ashamed of yourself for being so rude. As Alan also suggested, perhaps I should consider a different destination if they are all like you over there !! Why bother to even read this forum if you are such an idiot.

I'm pretty sure it's in NZ dollars. Or look at it like this. Assume NZ hotels charge about what a comparable US counterpart would, except in NZ$. It's great for American's. Enjoy. Eat like a king, drink like a king (great wines) stay in the best hotels. It'll all cost less than the Days in in Orlando.
