Port Douglas or Pine Cove

I am coming back to Australia after 30 years away and I am bringing my family. We will be arriving the 18th of December with my 15 and 13 year old. Looking for some "down time" and easy access to the reef. We have 4 nights to spend. Thinking about the Sheraton in PD since we have Starwood points to burn and Quick Silver for reef adventure. Any thoughts?

Port Douglas would be my pick. Lots more to do and see and easy access to the Reef. Palm Cove is really just one really long street though some of the newer resorts are no w building in the back streets. Port Douglas would also have more activities for the kids

Karen would be interested to know why you say Port Douglas has easier reef access than Palm Cove? Having owned our own boat here for many years and taken it out of Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas, there's not much in it. It just depends what part of the reef you're aiming for and all three places aren't far from each other, especially when you consider the reef is 2000km long.

Palm Cove is approx half way between Cairns and Port Douglas. Over the past few years, it has seen a lot of new developments, mainly tourism properties so you will find an abundance of quality accommodation.

I stayed at Sheraton PD 2 years ago, it was really dated and needed a major overhaul. Not sure if they have done so. I suggest you check out their website or enquire with them directly.

Enjoy!
