Pls Help ID this Bug Repellant

Do you know the name of this mosquitoe/insect repellant:

it is made in Australia and comes in a magenta (pinkishi-purple), cylindrical bottle with a pure white pop-off cap which covers the roll-on applicator. The bottle is about 4 cm in diameter, and about 13 cm high. The product contains deet.

My daypack was stolen out of my car and I was more disappointed that I lost this bug repellant than the binoculars that were in the same bag!

This stuff is great at repelling mosquitoes, and lasts a long time when on. A bottle lasts me a couple of years and was first found on a trip a friend had there, since then every couple of years when a friend/colleague goes to Australia and asks us if I want anything I give them money and ask them to bring me a bottle back. With it stolen I don't even know what the product is.

I've done a google search but without knowing the name of the product, I didn't get very far when I didn't see a pic of it.

If you could tell me the name of the product, I could start my on-line search to get a couple of bottles shipped here (Canada).

Any leads greatly appreciated!

The only magenta coloured bottle that I can think of is Rid. It comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Oops there must have been a crossover in our responses Shandy!!!

klam_chowder - if you type rid deet into google using a worldwide search. The 4th site down headed TED gives you a link to what the bottle looks like! (I tried pasting in the link but it didn't seem to work)

If it is "RID" (and the packaging description fits) then the bottle you lost may have been made in Australia - but it is not solely an Australian brand. I'm pretty sure the name belongs to Johnson & Johnson. I've bought this stuff in West Africa and elsewhere. If it's not in your local shops then suggest contacting J&J to find out how it's branded in your part of the planet.

Agree it's good!

Fuzzy, you got me intriqued.
Where in west africa were you? Not most people's idea of a holiday destination.

I spend some time in south africa and a little island off the west coast - name escapes me at the moment.

I've never posted on the "Aussie" board before but I think y'all the BEST BUNCH of FodoriteS!! Yes, that's the product...wooohooo! \/

I'm heading to a national Girl Guide camp in Guelph, Ontario (Canada) for 13 days this summer and just realized I'd be eaten alive if I didn't find this product again so I very much appreciate your info.

fuzzylogic...wow, thx for that tidbit. Coincidentally, my brother works for J&J in the US (and the company has an employee-only store/warehouse with all sorts of stuff in it) so I'll see if he can track it down too.

Thx a mint, all!! Enjoy-la! >-

eschaton - I'm pretty sure I bought my bottle of RID in Lagos.

If it wasn't there it was most likely in Accra. Don't think it was Cotonou or Lome.

Does that answer your question?

Agree W Africa is not on the list for most people. But it has so much to offer, and on a bad day I get really pissed off with those on the Africa board, whose main aim seem to be:

To watch the animals - doesn't matter really where they are. They don't have any interest in anything other than animals.

To stay somewhere that must cost at least 500 USD. This I find really obscene.

I think I had better stop there ...

Fuzzy, you raised an interesting point on Africa.

I noted you had a thread about African countries on this forum; I hope you don't mind me relocating this conversation to that thread.

Perhaps it might attract some reactions.
