Please Help with Aussie Airlines
The recent grounding of Ansett has made our travel plans unclear. I have already purchased g'day passes from Cairns to Sydney and back. I had to pick Ansett because the return schedule was the only one which accommodated our schedule properly. Will Quantas take over the routes (departing at the same time) or will the Quantas' current schedule be the one to follow? I have tried to get in touch with Quantas North America for the past 5 days, but to no avail. If anybody could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Lars,
It is a shame your holidays plans have been upset - you are one of thousands this has happened to. Things are very unclear regarding Ansett here in Australia. Just today it was announced Qantas will use some of Ansett's planes and crew so they have the capacity to get people where they want to go.
As far as schedules, my guess is Qantas will stick to it's current schedule and probably put on extra flights as needed. The easiest way to check the schedules would be via www.qantas.com.au Qantas has been inundated with calls so I'm not surprised you can't get through on the phone but I do sympathise. It's also quite possible you will have to buy another ticket with Qantas. Check the Q&A section on www.ansett.com.au to see if that helps.
I do hope you can still come to Australia and have a great holiday.
Kay

Contact your travel agent and get a claim with your travel insurance company for the Ansett component of your travel and then either get a Qantas flight ( they will stick with their own time-tables) or Virgin Blue. The latter doesn't go to Cairns at present I think but they too are trying to get some of the routes that has been vacated by Ansett.
There are talks going on at present about other airlines buying up Ansett and depending when you are coming things may be very different from the situation now.
It may be difficult for the time being but I am sure you will get a refund in the end and hopefully your plans will not be too messed.
