PLEASE HELP URGENT NewZealand--what is a "must see"? Must finalize itinerary ASAP
A sudden change in itinerary leaves a group of us flying into Sydney but meeting friends in Auckland for New Years, with a few days before and a few days after. What is must see? Queenstown, Auckland, Christchurch, wineries?

It's hard to say where is the best place but if you want adventure head to Queenstown, If you want sun, surf and sand either head north from Auckland or drive to the east coast.Hire a car and go where the whim takes you, being a small country it dosen't take long to drive from one end to the other.

Queenstown - whether you are in search of adventure or just sightseeing. Take the gondala up to Bob's Peak for great views.
Rotorua - unique.
Bay of Islands if you have time - really lovely scenery.
The train trip from Christchurch across Arthurs Pass is well worth doing.
Milford or Doubtful Sounds are spectacular but you may not have time to drive there.

Go to the bay of Islands, KeriKeri area or stay inromantic and quiant Russel(take ferry from pahia) where you can take a boat cruise in the amazing bay. It should be nice and warm there.
Or take a fery from Auckland to the islands around the bay that boast art galleries/wineries. Fly to Nelson (a cool place)and experience the hiking via water taxi in the Abel Tasman park.
