PLEASE HELP: HONEYMOON IN GREECE OR FIJI

Hello, we are happily planning our honeymoon for June 11th, 2001 and are in love with both Greece and Fiji. The ancient sites of Grecce beckon, but we also want romance and love lush islands. We want to rest and enjoy each other we also like adventure. It is not so much the Greek islands we want to see but the Peloponnese for its lack of crowds and wonderful history. We are having trouble finding honeymoon like accomodations there so Fiji has always been our next thought. We really need some help so we can book our trip. Please tell us your choice. why, and where. OUr budget is below 10,000. US dollars. Oh yes and the weather in June too please. Thank you.

Definately Fiji !! After being in Greece and twice to Fiji I think for a honeymoon Fiji would be much better. Although I loved Greece and the five islands we visited it was very crowded and we were there the end of September, beginning of October. I understand in the summer months there are even more people and very hot weather. I would recommend Matangi Island, Fiji for one week anyway with maybe a second week in a different location in Fiji or perhaps even Tahiti or the Cook Islands. There have been a lot of posts on this particular resort - enter Matangi under topic at the top of the forums page or go to their website. It is a fabulous place particularly if you like to dive or snorkel.

Have not been to Greece but concur, there could not be a nicer place to honeymoon than Fiji. We have been 9 of the last 10 years to Qamea Beach Resort, near Matagi (www.qamea.com) and always meet honeymooners from around the world. It is a small resort - 24 guests max. You can be as private as you like. There is a gorgeous new honeymoon suite. Food is excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Oh yes, we have been in June, July, August and October. Weather is generally 70 low and 80 high. Our summer is their winter. Expect some rain any time as it IS the tropics but I can think of no more gorgeous place to be in the rain. Attractive honeymoon beach around the bend for a getaway lunch and swim. Check their web site. Else

I think that Matangi Island, http://www.matangiisland.com, is both tops for a honeymoon and the best value. We visited Quamea in 1998 and it does not compare to Matangi in the way of beauty, charm and quality of the staff. It also was more expensive. Matnagi is an unusual place in Fiji since it is a privately owned island that has been in the same family for two generation. This makes it something special since the owners have native blood. There are other exceptional places but the prices can almost double. June is too warm for Greece and it will be two crowded. If you go to Matangi you will have enough money left to go to Greece in early Octorber next year when the weather will be night and most tourists will be gone.

We're going to Matangi for our honeymoon in April, 2001 - I can't wait! We haven't heard any negative comments about it. We found their prices very reasonable - the specials they offer include airfare and inter-island transfers and they have been very pleasant to work with.

Good Luck!!

Hello. Thank you very much for all the wonderful suggestions. I love listening to fellow travelers. Please forgive my silence. We have recently lost a loved one, my fiancee's mother at only 59. This very sad and unexpected loss has been very hard on us. We lost 3 weeks of work. There is the possibility of postponing our wedding bcs we don't know if we can take any more time off. We both feel very uncomfortalble asking for more time off. If we do postpone it will be in August and Greece is not at all good then. Time will tell as will his boss. Thank you so much for all your help.

Hi Tammy, we just got back from Greece and Turkey two weeks ago and went to Fiji last September for our honeymoon. We debated between the two last year for our honeymoon. We loved both trips, but it all depends on what you want to do while on your honeymoon and what you like to do. If you just want to relax and sit on beaches, then either are great. But, you have to be careful on where you go. A lot of Fiji is rainy like parts of Hawaii and doesn't have much in the way of beaches. But, a lot of Greece is overcrowded, especially in June. If you also want snorkeling and scuba diving with your beaches, then definitely Fiji. If you want to see ancient history and ruins with your beaches, then Greece. I don't think you can go wrong with either place as long as you research where you go. Both places can be done extravagantly or on very reasonable budgets because of the exchange rates and number of hotels, especially Greece. We want to go back to both soon. Feel free to e-mail me if you have specific questions.
