In Cairns I highly recommend Tjapukai for an Aboriginal cultural experience http://www.tjapukai.com.au/

With eight of you it would be worthwhile contacting Mark http://www.birdsofprey.com.au/ for a private show.
For birds, platypus, kangaroos, rock wallabies and possums in the wild http://www.alanswildlifetours.com.au/
Our possums are not closely related to yours and are very cute.
