Fellow Travelers,
I really need your assitance in planning an upcoming trip to New Zealand mid Feb 2010 with my hubby. The only issue is that we just found out we are pregnant and now all the activities we were planning I now can not do.
Flying in and out of the Auckland Aiport 6 days, 4 full days. .
Wanted to rent a car and drive around to seek adventure but now I'm totally clueless on my options. Any sugguestions?

Fear not, there's plenty to do in NZ that doesn't involve tossing onself from a bridge or bouncing down a hill in a bubble.

I'm confused as well. How long do you have for your trip?

kiwi_rob, I should mention that my youngest daughter has, for the umpteenth time, informed me that I'm a dinosaur.

That's OK - it's nice here in the swamp.

We'll see who's pregnant when 'we' goes into labor!

Mel, don't forget the sympathy pains.

(I've never heard of sympathy nausea, though.)

One pregnant person here folks, sorry my husband isn't pregnant! No one else tends to refer to "us or we" are pregnant....at least for the first baby?

Here's my itterary I would love for any insight you can offer:
Feb 13 Arrive Auckland at 1.00pm
Feb 17 Leave Auckland at 1.00pm for Sydney
Feb 21 Leave Sydney at 8.15am and arrive Cairns
Feb 25 Leave Cairns at 6.00am

Wow, that is a pretty short trip!

I would spend my first day in Auckland. Depending on where you're coming from, you may be pretty jet lagged. You could walk around, visit the Auckland Museum, take a ferry over to Devonport or Waiheke or one of the other islands near Auckland.

After that you basically have three days before you leave for Australia. You could go down to Waitomo for the glowworms, and Rotorua has geothermal areas and Maori cultural activities. Or you could spend a couple of day in the Bay of Islands area.

It's ok, I got it - I'm more evolved than Swampy Neil and know that it's now a PC thing to say "we're pregnant", thereby making the man feel involved in the whole miracle of birth right from the gitgo...however, I love Mel's comment about "we" when it comes time to deliver! hahahhaa.

Ok, back to New Zealand. First day in Auckland, I agree with Lee Ann and you should just walk all around the city and see the sights.

You could take a day bus tour to either, or both, the Bay of Islands or Rotorua; assuming that you're based in Auckland. You'll really want to get OUT of Auckland and see more of the beauty of New Zealand in the short time that you have.
