New Year's Eve

My husband & I have the good fortune to be able to spend this coming NY eve either in Melbourne or you-name-it Tasmania. Please advise. Mahalo! Debbie

OK I may have bias because I am a Sydneysider but if you can get live coverage of the Sydney fireworks I would stay in with a bottle of sparkling and watch it on TV.

But then I am biased.

Thanks so much - We were in Sydney for New year's eve several years ago and found it spectacular - Very family oriented and fun crowd!! What is your thought about Melborne vs Hobart? Debbie

Hi Debbie,

All I can suggest is that you spend it in a major population centre unless you want a real quiet night. Most newspapers will have details regarding free entertainment and Melbourne also has some impressive fireworks.

If you want to go to a function....dinner/show then it best to conatct your hotel and ask advice as to local entertianment as this type of thing may need to be booked ahead.

Hobart is good on new years eve because all the boats from the sydney-hobart boat race are in port.
