Need a good route from Dunkeld to Fleurieu Peninsula

Trying to figure out how to get from Dunkeld to the Fleurieu peninsula in one day. Doable?? We are staying in Dunkeld and want to head over to Adelaide via teh Fleurieu Peninsula. Is Kangaroo Island a must?

I am guessing you may be going to the Royal Mail Hotel. Maybe not,but it will be at least 7 hours from there to Adelaide. You will need one night before going to Kangaroo Island, which is a wonderful experience to see wildlife.

Trying to figure out whether or not to do Kangaroo Island or just hang around the Grampians. Doesn't seem like there's too much between the Grampians and Adelaide.

If you go the direct route to Adelaide via highway through Bordertown, there isnt much to do or see. You could maybe do a day trip to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide. If you are stuck for time I would stay in the Grampians area. Also adding on the fuel cost to drive to Adelaide, plus ferry etc or even a day trip from Adelaide, I think I would stay in the Grampians.

Well, I need to get to Adelaide eventually, so maybe it's best to head down towards Robe, hit Mt. Gambier, and enjoy the coastline, end in McLaren Vale, and drive to the airport from McLaren Vale.

Think I am going to skip Kangaroo Island and instead check out the wildlife in Cape Otway.
