Motorhome letdown
Hi there,
We're going to Australia for 4 weeks in March/April. We logged on to complete our booking yesterday for a motorhome Sydney-Adelaide in April, and discovered to our disappointment that they won't do a one-way letting for less than 14 days (we want 8 days). The company (Around Australia Motorhomes) was offering a 'Freewind' motorhome which is nicer than average - for 2 people but bed is not over cab and is permanently in place rather than convertible from dining area. Anyone have any recommendations of companies you used who have this type of model? I've tried Bartrak and two others recommended by Lonely Planet but none seem to offer this type of sleeping arrangement.

Thanks,
Anna

G'day Anna,
try this link,
http://www.apollocamper.com/
They have various type of campers and locations in lot's of places.
For such short rentals I doubt if you can get out of paying a one-way fee, but give it a try and let us know how you got on.

Cheers,
mike
Also, try
BritzAustralia (http://www.webtravel.com.au/britz.htm)

Maui (http://www.maui-rentals.com/australia/sydney.cfm)

NQ Campervans (http://www.webtravel.com.au/nq_campervans.htm)

Britz and Maui are probably the largest companies, and may therefore charge a lower one-way rate, because they will be better able to rent the van back out again. We went with NQ Campervans, primarily based on price. We were quite happy with them, although we returned the campervan back to the hire site.

I'm not sure what type of layout you prefer. We went with a Hi-Top van (http://www.webtravel.com.au/nq_hightop.htm), which is perfectly adequate for two people. The bed covers the full width of the van, making it plenty big for two, and it folds up into seat for traveling and dining. There was plenty of storage and cooking was easy and efficient. It isn't a palace on wheels, but it is economical in terms of petrol, easy to drive, and easy to park.

Hi Mike and Alf,
Thanks for your replies.
Mike, we wouldn't mind so much about the one-way fee - but they won't even do that, strictly minimum 14 day rental if you're only going one way. Bit disappointing. I can't find any other company who does this type of van (it's a Mercedes 2/3 berth)
Alf, thanks for recommendation - I've checked NQ, but they don't have the type we were looking for with a bed permanently in place.

If anyone has any more ideas, it would be great to hear them. This is part of our 4 week honeymoon, so we don't mind paying a little more than normal.

Thanks,
Anna

Hi Anna,
NQ Rentals does have motorhomes with the bed over the cab - always fixed - and the dinette converting into a double bed at the rear.
We also didn't want to dismantle our bed every day!

We rented the 234 Berth Basic Motorhome, and our friends took the 234 Berth Deluxe. The basic was excellent. But our friends did have a small advantage with the deluxe have a shower and toilet on board, and an outside awning... it depends what you think you'll need.
We booked ours through Cathy.
Had a really great holiday!
Penny
