moorea/bora bora honeymoon
my fiancee and i will be going to moorea and bora bora for our honeymoon in may. we will be staying over the water at the beachcomber in moorea and in a beach bungalow at hotel bora bora. thats about as much as i have planned. does anyone have any advice on what we must do? i was thinking about doing a dolphin tour in moorea and safari tour on one of the islands. anyone have a idea on how to get dropped off on a deserted motu for a quiet/romantic day alone? any cant miss restaurants? any feelings on the beachcomber?
thanks...alexander

been there done that. half the beauty in french polynesia is underwater-must do. other must do's: belvedere-moorea, mahogany restaurant-moorea, tahitian village-moorea, watch sunset, see bora bora from air, lagoon tour-bora bora. beachcomber is first class. safari tour-to see what? all the wildlife is underwater. seemed like all motu's had a hotel on them. great choice for honeymoon, enjoy.
tim

Good thing is that most things to do can be arranged after you get there.

Since most striking feature of FP is the ocean, activities tends to be focused on that. Also since it is quite hot even in their winter, water activities would sound better than the land excursions.

Many excursion can be arranged at Beachcomber, snorkeling, diving, parasailing, motu trip for a day, etc. The motu trip is hardly to a desearted motu, and definitely not alone especially with tour groups. Belvedere is a lookout in the middle of the island, about halfway up the moutain in the middle of the "rain machine." We rented a car on a whim to get there as a part of drive around the island after seeing that the roads were ok and traffics were very light (and they did not drive like in Paris!).

Tahitian-village in Moorea, if I recall, was just around the island near Beachcomber by car and, well, sort of their answer to "Polynesian Culture Center" in Oahu. They had Pareu (tie die cloth), flower crown making, coconut cutting, and Polynesian dance demonstrations. It was run by bunch of goofy guys and quiet ladies. Quite amusing and down to earth, if not polished performances.

Bora Bora has much extensive lagoon. We have done sunset catamaran cruise - very romantic, barrier reef trip (not recommended unless there is little wind and wave at the outer ocean, very very scary on a windy day.) We wished we had done the day long catamaran Motu cruise. My daughers liked getting leftover bread from the restaurant and sit in the water to feed the pretty fish.

HI, Just came back last month. Food is excellent. I will also cast a vote for Le Mahogany restaurant. It's a ways from the beachcomber but it's a small island so all is relative. The duck in cream sauce knocked my socks off and other people from our hotel (Bali Hai) tried it and agreed. The Les Tippaniers quite close to the beachcomber is outstanding also. I had a giant filet mignon drowning in a pond of fabulous bernaise. As I recall it was only $23.00 American. Fabulous. The safari tour was fun. We rented a car for a day and checked out the entire island. We walked through the various hotels, saw the shopping areas. By the ferry landing is the largest everything store on the island. The store was no larger than a grocery store in a large town and it had clothes with the can goods, liquor with the pots & pans, everything was all over, no rhyme or reason. It was fun. At our hotel we had use of an outrigger when we wanted. the beachcomber and Club Med are quite close to the motus and if you can get an outrigger you could easily make your way over to a motu for a "picnic". Enjoy.
