Just back from Sydney, Port Douglas and Darwin

I have just returned from a 2 week trip to Australia (my first). I want to thank everyone for all their helpful information I received when planning the trip. It was a fantastic trip, here's a synopsis:

Two full days in Sydney - saw the Aquarium, Darling Harbour, took a harbour cruise, climbed the Harbour Bridge (everyone should!), ate at some fantastic restaurants.

Six days in Port Douglas - stayed in an apartment close to the main drag, went on a Quicksilver trip to the reef, did an all day tour with David Ambrust (incredible), went to Kuranda via skyrail and train, walked around Mossman Gorge, enjoyed the beach, shops and restaurants.

2 days in Darwin - went on an all day trip (long day) to Kakadu National Park.

If anyone has questions, please ask.

Martha

Martha,

Glad you had good vacation. We are leaving on October 4 for similar trip. We arrive in Cairns rather late one evening and would like to go to Kuranda ~ also via train & skyrail. Should we make both reservations before leaving Texas (web site) or is there plenty of room?

Thanks!

To Duck -

We made reservations to go to Kuranda the day before and didn't have any problems. I'm not sure if October is a busier time of year or not. Unless there are alot of busses coming in, I wouldn't think it would be a problem to wait until you get there (assuming you'll be there a few days before you want to go).

To Jen and Jill -

The furry ones are good - they were so cute.

Martha
Hi Martha. What apartments did you stay in? How were the beds? too soft? Did it rain while you were there? It POURED the morning we spent in David's forest and scared his animals!

Lori -

I stayed in the Tropical Reef Apartments, which is very close to Macrossan street, just one block from the beach. It was a great location and nice apartment - nothing fancy, but very clean with friendly managers. The apartment had 2 bedrooms, one with a full sized bed and the other with 2 twin beds. The beds were pretty firm and good. Also had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and nice balcony.

Luckily we had great weather for our day with David Ambrust, so no problems with the animals coming up close. Hopefully I'll get my pictures back tomorrow and see how they came out.

Martha
