Yes, Auckland is dealing with huge clean-up and now Waitomo has declared a state of emergency as the storm moves south.
Auckland Airport plans to resume international passenger departures by 5 a.m., Sunday 29 January and international arrivals by 7 a.m.
Also, and unrelated to the storm, an Interislander ferry's engines temporarily lost power while crossing Cook Strait on Saturday. "An emergency was declared and life vests were handed out to passengers." The ferry left Picton at 2:15 p.m. and arrived in Wellington at around 9 p.m., accompaned by tugboats as a precaution.
