Itinerary for 10 days in New Zealand

Milford Sound can be done from QT, yes. The coach tour to Milford from QT is a day trip - you'd return to QT the same day.
If self-driving, you could stay overnight in Te Anau, which is a two hour drive from QT and a two hour drive from Milford.
I've not done the Milford overnight, can't help with that one.
I'm confused now, are you taking a tour or driving?

We are taking a tour but since we have one day extra than the ones in the fixed itinerary, we could extend that stay in Queenstown and would have to undertake the Milford tour on our own ....
My next question would be how can we do this Milford Sound tour on our own .... are there buses operating for such day tours and if we take a cab how much would that cost?

Does your tour give the option of adding a day? I'd think they'd have a schedule to keep and by adding a day on your own you'd miss the next leg of the tour - you'd be at Milford while they're on their way to Mt Cook.

There are glow worm dells all over...a small one near Hokitika, an organized tour from Te Anau...no need to pay for a tour really, just ask a local.
Regarding 'best time' to do Milford cruise - depends on your perspective - most people suggest you get there before the tour buses, I prefer to get there late in the day as the buses are leaving. Just do whatever makes sense with your particular schedule.
I wouldn't book in advance, I'd wait to see what the weather is up to. Despite the advertising, Milford is definitely not better on a rainy day IMO. Hold out for sunshine if you can.

Hi Melnq ... sorry for the long hiatus ... was in the process of getting visa and bookings done....
is there any difference between jetboating and skydiving offered by different companies at different locations or are they just the same and is there any site where I can prebook these at discounted prices ...

We are looking at these too, and for skydiving, NZone in Queenstown usually has very good reviews on tripadvisor etc.

I came across these queenstown combos, but not sure if you get better prices on the ground there as opposed to prebooking online:

Cheers.
