That's a pretty nifty website FurryTiles. I didn't realize that most of Australia is in the same time zone, or pretty close. We're so isolated out here in the west that we sort of forget what the rest of the country is doing. I'll never get used to that 1.5 hour time change between WA and NT/SA though. It just seems wrong somehow.
I'd been thinking about Neil alot before his death. His absence spoke volumes. He only made a vague comment or two about his illness, but somehow I just knew.
It's an odd feeling to mourn someone you've never met, but that's exactly what I'm doing. What a treat it would have been to have actually known him.

I love the idea of a round the world toast to Neil. Plus an around the clock toast for those that are time zone challenged!
Google says that Canberra is 10+ GMT and Boston is -3 GMT so it'll be a 3am toast here. I was getting up early to head out on a weekend trip so I think it'll be appropriate if I raise a glass while completing my early packing.

Mel, it all goes pear-shaped when Daylight Savings time kicks in on 4 Oct in some states and not others. I recall Neil mentioning this in one of his posts - joking that Queensland stopped DST because they reckoned it faded the curtains too much.
Sassy, according to the website posted above, 6pm in Canberra is 4am in Boston - so you get a bonus hour!

Hello Stormbird, what a lovely idea! I will think of Neil and his wonderful wife and the bottles of Italians wines we had together in San Francisco.
Also, I wanted to mention that if you go to the Lounge there is a beautiful message on the thread regarding the sad news about Neil from Neil's wife Robyn.

Funny enough, that's the same ridiculous line they used here when WA did away with daylight savings time...as a result, it gets light at 4:30 am here in the summer time...gag me.

I just came upon this thread of having a toast to Neil. It's 7:30 PM here in NY, I didn't quite make the 6 PM Oz time, but here's to Neil (glass of pinot noir is raised)--he enriched all of our earthly lives, and, when we reach the end of our time here on earth, he will enrich our afterlives as well. See you there, Neil.

Oh my, reckon Neil must be rolling on heaven's floor with laughter at our collective inability with time zones, east n west, behind and ahead of ... and being the impetus for a 3 day Fodorite global drinking binge, just to be sure, to be sure!
Here's the link again - fixed at Thursday, 9 September, 6pm (or 18.00 hrs just to add a new number to the maths) Canberra time and then showing the exact time/day in other parts of the world.

I'm polishing my glass now for a pristine shine to toast our Neil in ahem seven hours - or if Stormbird opens the Neil Cyber Pub early at 4pm, five hours.
Give or take 13 minutes.

Uhm, Clifton, 6:00PM Thursday Australian time will be 3:00AM here on the westcoast of the US as we are 15 hours behind Australian time. So wouldn't NYC time be 6:00AM this coming morning as NYC is 3 hours ahead of our westcoast time. In other words, when it is 3:00AM here on our US westcoast it is 6:00AM on the US eastcoast.
Geez, no kidding, Furry Tiles, our Neil must be slapping his head and saying to himself "I knew it, they are all hopeless".
Anyway, I know that your Australian time is 15 hours ahead of our US westcoast time. I am going to bed early and I have set my alarm for 2:45AM so I can get up, splash some water on my face to wake up and and join you lovely Fodorites for a "Cheers" to our beloved Neil.

Oh my, I am totally confused now. I guess at first I wrongly read the date as September 8 thus I thought I missed it. Guess I was actually early. I'm not sure I'll be awake at 3 or 4 this morning as I've been toasting Neil now for the past several hours and I'm, shall we say, feeling no pain right now!

Hold on LI... let me think about this... how I figured that
I have 2 clocks on my PC so I don't call to Skype with my folks at the wrong time. They live in the central time zone. In about 20 minutes, it will be 2pm here... and it'll be 11pm at their house. And midnight in NYC.
That puts us four hours away from our time... which will be 6pm for me, 3am "back home" and 4am for laurie. If I haven't lost my mind. And 1am for you...
Actually my folks in Missouri are 15 hours difference right now from us here on the Aussie eastern time. Sometimes there's 17 hours difference, when daylight savings kicks in both places (and each goes an hour in opposite directions).
Maybe that's where you're getting the 15 hours? Sometimes you are 15 hours difference, but I think right now, you're only 13 hours difference.

I reckon that, if we all start drinking at 20:00 NZ time, 18:00 Australian Eastern time (about 4 hours from now) and keep going until this time tomorrow (pace being a matter of individual preference), we should pretty well cover it.
Rob.
