How To Make the Best In Cairns

Hi! I will be in Cairns in October. Please advise me as to what to see and do there. I will be taking tours of the rain forest, etc., but I'd like to know what to do in Cairns during the lulls. Robert

Stay in or on the water as much as possible!! Scuba, snorkel, sail--it's all good. And when you go to the rainforest, wear a bright colored shirt and tour the butterfly farm--the butterflies will be attracted to your shirt and you may have some land on you!

We were in Cairns a few years ago. We ended up doing 3 trips - one to the outer reef for snorkeling, one to Kuranda and we also went white water rafting. That was quite adventurous - the rafts weren't 6 man rafts like we expected - just 2 of us to a raft! It was fun. I'm not into gambling at all, but all the Australians I know love their 'clubs' and I think there's a big casino in Cairns, if you're interested.

I was in Cairns just a few weeks ago. Besides the reef and rainforest bit we also took a day trip to Green Island which we really enjoyed. Beautiful beach and some nice walks. A bit crowded in some areas but walk a ways down the beach and you can get some privacy! If you go, pack your own drinks and maybe a bit of food as the resort there is a bit expensive.
