Just returned from 3 days in NZ and 10 in OZ.In Auck. we(hubby,me 2 boys) stayed at the Hyatt in a family suite- 2 rooms with buffet breakfast for 4 @ app. $100 USD-well worth it!!. Walk right into town but take a taxi back-walk is uphill. Went up the Skytower- great views; Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Museum- don't miss; and took ferry to Davenport -cute little English-like town.Next day we drove to Waitomo and on to Rotorua- you will not have time to do this- we had to spend the nite in Rotorua- 3 hr. drive back to Auck. On your second day, rent a car, time permitting and hit the road a bit and have fun!!

Tax referred to must be the NZ GST of 12.5%.

As well as those places already recommended (agree), a nice day trip to somewhere "different" is Waiheke Island which is situated less than an hours ferry ride from downtown Auckland. There are beautiful beaches, wineries & craft shops to visit on the island.

Enjoy your holiday.

nzers

A pleasant outing in Auckland is to take the ferry across to Devonport, take a walk up to the top of the hill for the view across Auckland and the surrounding area. Lots of little shops and eating places. The ferry trip is only about 10 minutes.

We just stayed at the Hilton for 2 nights. It's a beautiful 'boutique' style hotel with great views. They are not very full right now, so you might be able to book for a good price. Definitely spend one day in Auckland and go further afield the second day. Have fun!
