We have about 3 weeks to honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand. Does anyone have suggestions as to how we should break it up? We are thinking a few days in Sydney, a few days on the reef and a few days in New Zealand (by "a few days," i need your help determining how many). Also, somebody recommended the north of Australia, since the weather will be better there. Please post your suggestions! Thanks.

Your question is very broad, as you do not mention when you are coming to Australia/New Zealand, nor do you give any indication of your intrests.

However . . .

If you have three weeks I would spend about a week in Sydney - you can break this up with a bridge climb, tour/catch a concert at the Opera House, take a ferry from Circular Quay across to Manly, go to the Zoo, tour The Rocks, take a day trip to the Blue Mountains, go to Bondi, take a train trip up to the Central Coast (lovely scenery). If you plan to go up north to the Great Barrier Reef you could probably spend about a week up there too. Investigate either sailing around the reef on one of the many charters or skippered tours or stay at one of the islands.

You could spend 2 weeks easily touring around the north or south island of New Zealand (or both). Hire a car as this is the best way to get around. If you do the South Island try to get a night on the Milford Mariner at Milford Sound (it is spectacular), go to Queenstown and Mt. Cook.

The weather in Australia is especially chilly in the south now (it's winter), but the weather will start to warm up again around the end of August/early September. You will find that Queensland (where the Great Barrier Reef is) is at its best at this time of year (winter) as it is tropical and the days are usually warm and sunny. As you move into the Australian summer the weather in the north becomes wetter and more humid as it is a very tropical climate, while the weather in the south is drier.

Duh - just read your heading. May should be very nice in the north and the south of Australia.

If you're flying Air NZ, you can stop off in the Cook Islands on Rarotonga for no extra charge. It's a fantastic alternative to the more expensive Tahiti and the overdeveloped Hawaii. Rooms are very inexpensive (NZ dollar), the water is wonderful and the people very friendly.
