Heron Isle, or where?
Hello, we need advise on which isle. to choose for this Dec. Can only fit in one in our itinerary. We want to spend 4 days at the GBR with hot weather, great snorkelling off the beach (not have to take a boat), and wildlife. Have 2 preteens with us, so can't afford Lizard or Hayman, not interested in nightlife, mainly nature. It all seems to boil down to Heron Island or Daydream isle? Concerned Heron's snorkelling off beach isn't too good. Thanks for you experts' advise!!

Dear Louise,
I would suggest to visit Orpheus Isl.,
as it is a heaven for your travelidea.
Even Hayman cannot top the beaches, the nature and the coast. Hayman is the luxuriest hideway while Orpheus is for little romatinc moments to explore and to discover.
Enjoy travelling throughout this unique
place - Greetings Shain/Germany/Düsseldorf
If you go to Airlie Beach ( the Whitsundays where Daydream and hayman Islands are) you will see all the islands rates and charges on billboards. There are lots of different islands to choose from and lots of different plans for couple and families and also standby rates. Long Island is another possibility.
I have said it before and I will continue to say it - Heron island is isolated and off a part of Queensland which is less than interesting, it is the only island in that area and is at the bottom of the 1,200 mile reef and its also small. If you are not going to the Cairns area then the Whitsundays is really the best place to go because you have the choice of 80 islands and mainland based holiday resorts and you can take day trips to the other islands.
Heron Island is for people who have seen the rest I think.
