Great Barrier Reef Honeymoon Help
WE are planning on taking our 10 day honeymoon to the GBR at the end of August and would love some advice on the best way to spend out limited time. We are thinking of spending a few days on one of the islands to rest and relax from the wedding (ie privacy and quit is the ticket) and then afterward wanted to re-enter civilization at a new location. Any great places to suggest?

Lisa

For privacy and quiet, and the best GBR snorkeling and diving, Lizard Island is amazing. It is very exclusive (and as a result, on the pricey side, but well worth it) and they don't allow children. There are usually only about 30 or so guests on the island and they truly pamper you. Check it out.

Satoru

If you get any chance at all, go to Port Douglas, just an hour north of Cairns. It has a range of accommodation and lots of well run tours, or you can just walk the beach and do your own thing. People fall in love with the place and return year after year.
There is the reef and the Daintree rainforest nearby and a great spa in Macrossan street where you can relax and get spoilt and pampered. The Natural Therapies Centre and Spa caters for many honeymooners and is popular and professional and very affordable.

Check out Heron Island. Small island, the resort maxes out around 200 guests. The island is 25 miles off the coast and you feel like you are in the middle of the Pacific. The reef starts just outside your window and they have tremendous diving. Night life is on the quiet side as all the divers go to bed early. Highly recommend this island/resort.
