Gold Coast...Alone with child. Advice?

I'm travelling alone with my 6-year old to the Gold Coast. We plan to stay a week. Can anyone recommend a safe & conveniently located budget holiday apartment? I don't intend to hire a car, so should I purchase the Freedom Pass or rely on the local Day Tour companies to get around & see the sights? Additionally, work commitments & budget contraints will only allow me to travel only in the 1st. week of August. I know the winters over there are mild but how chilly will the weather be around that time? Should I just pack jeans & jumpers? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

There are hundreds of holiday apartments on the Gold Coast so you shouldn't have trouble getting one at the right price. However, you may want to consider renting a cabin in a caravan park. This will give you all the facilities you need plus playground, pool, games room etc. Prices I've seen are about $60 a night per cabin. You can book daytours through the park office.
We've been on the Gold Coast in July/August - weather should be mild but pack shorts and teeshirts for sunny days plus some jeans and jumpers for evenings and colder days. Take raincoats and umbrellas just in case. Hope you have a great holiday.

Just came back from Gold Coast with my wife and 2 kids, 4 and 7 year old.

Stayed in Surfer's paradise area. We took the public bus to go around Surfer's Paradise area. If you plan to visit Wet and Wild and the other attractions, you can call up the many transport companies and have make regular trips there in mini-buses.

Hi,
if you are coming from America, the accommodation prices should seem fairly reasonable to you, considering the exchange rate. I would recommend to you to stay in either the Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach area. These two places have just about the best bus service on the Gold Coast. The bus system will be the way to go for you. You won't need to use the day tours unless you are planning on going to the Gold Coast hinterland. This will also save you money. Surfside buses are the transport provider and i'm pretty sure that they have a webpage with timetables and prices. They have weekly travel cards too which might be worth it.

Yes winters are fairly mild, lowest temperatures are probably around 12 degrees celcius in August, it will be a fairly pleasant time of year to travel because it won't be crawling with tourists. I'd bring a couple of jumpers and long pants.

If you have any other questions regarding the Gold Coast, send me an email and I'll be happy to help.

Cassandra
a gold coaster...

try booking thru marriot courtyard or conrad jupiter casino hotels ,i think it has good location and if you can get thru your travel agent it may be reasonably price. when you get there just join local tours or just get the get around coach pass ( they have 3, 5, 7 etc. day pass ), pass is good for airport return transfers and theme park return transfers as well. this can be purchased at the airport, travel agents are given 20% discount on these. If you want to go to theme park just surf thru internet you can get discounted tickets, movieworld, dreamworld etc.,
