Glacier Express

We recently travelled from Brig to Chur on the regional trains rather than the Glacier Express.
The main advantage was that the windows in the regional train can be moved down to take good photographs. We took the train to Andermatt and then spent an hour walking around this quaint town before boarding the next train to Disentis. We then had 7 mins to change trains to Chur. We saw the Glacier Express several times on this trip. Everyone was seated and enjoying their meals and the views. We were hanging out the windows capturing the beautiful scenery. The right hand side of the train going towards Chur had the most scenery. We stayed in a beautiful old family run hotel in Brig - Hotel Victoria.
It was opposite the railway station and we had views to the mountains from the balcony.
The food was good and reasonably priced in their restaurant.
We caught the train from Zurich airport and bought the half fare card to get discounted travel. From Chur we returned to the airport in Zurich. This was all acheived in 48 hours!

You've posted this on 'Australia & the Pacific'.

I assume you mean the Glacier Express in Switzerland. So you can re-post over on Europe -- or an even better option would be to click the triangle w/ the ! and ask the moderators to move your thread over there

Since janisj posted, this has been moved to its correct place and is now properly tagged Switzerland.

I There, I just took the Glacier Express 2 days ago and I must say is really over rated, especially because you can that that tour on regular trains.

Concerning the Hotel Victoria - thanks for the report, Did you get a sence on if it would it be feasible to stay at this hotel 2 nights and do a day trip to Zermatt? Or is it best just to go all the way into Zermatt - was brig a nice town to visit on its own merit? thanks
