Getting to Alice Springs from Brisbane?

Any suggestions on getting from Brisbane to Alice Springs? I know going via air is best, but haven't seen any flights.. can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I can't see any other options other than flying. The bus trip would be unbearable. I think Ansett and Qantas fly to Alice from Brisbane via Sydney.

Andrea
I just checked Qantas' web site. No direct flights from Brisbane to Alice Springs. I did find Brisbane to Cairns to Alice Springs. Or Brisbane to Darwin to Alice Springs. Check out www.qantas.com.
Hope this helps.
John

Hi Andrea,

There are currently no airlines that fly direct to Alice Springs from Brisbane. You have to fly either via Sydney or Cairns. Don't even think about taking a bus, I have done this and it is the pits. You could do it by train but it would take a very long time to get to Alice as you would have to catch a train to Sydney first then catch the Ghan from Sydney to Alice Springs.

Cheers

Paul

Re trains from Brisbane to Alice, you would need a train Brisbane to Sydney, then the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Adelaide, then the Ghan from Adelaide to Alice. That's a marathon you don't want.

G'day Andrea,
I agree with the other answers - if time matters then flying is best, even if it's via Cairns or Sydney.
However if you have the time, why not be adventurous and experience the country rather than just giving it a passing glance?

You can drive, take your time, stop along the way at any place you like and get a feeling for our outback.
It'll take you a few days, four if you are pushing it but I would allow 7 - 8.

It's an alternative and the number of people doing it is on the increase.

If it's an option for you then I suggest you take a look at this forum and ask questions there:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/australianredcentre
Joining is easy and many members are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Enjoy,
Mike
