Freycinet area self catering
We am looking for self catering in the Freycinet area for 3 nites in November. Just a couple.
Most of the recommendations on the site are for B&B (doesn't fit our self catering preference)or the Edge of the Bay resort. The latter looks good but is more expensive than we are seeking for three nights.
The Tubby and Padman in Swansea is recommended and looks good but is a longer drive than we would prefer, unless we would find that area was interesting with just a one day trip for the hike to Wineglass Bay.
I have noted the one poster who booked a "dump" and had eat the deposit. I am trying to avoid such a situation but references on other accommodations are hard to find.
Other suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi John -
We stayed at a B&B (Pelican Bay) so I can't give you any references, but here are a few self catering options in the area that might be worth a look:
http://www.mtpaul.com.au/
This site lists quite a few self catering options near Coles Bay:
http://www.wineglassbay.com/index.ph...e&Itemid=1
As does this one:
http://www.accommodation-in-australi.../tas/list8.php
Bicheno is a possibility too, although it may also be further than you want to drive.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the speedy response.
I may not have been clear in my question. I have found potential self catering accomodation on the web, including the first site you have suggested, but am not doing well finding references for them.
The poster that had booked a "dump" has got my apprehension up as it is clearly such a nice area that I would want to have chosen something a little better!
One option is not to pre-book and chance that we can find something when we arrive in mid-Nov, as we could then view it before committing. This isn't our first choice approach as it brings with it some stresses.

This place looks nice - lots of good reviews too, albeit on the property's own site:

Okay, I'll stop now.

Thanks for your work! Tripadvisor is normally where I start but it is surprisingly sparse.
Hazardshideway looks wonderful but it is $720 for the three nites, more than we really want to pay. However, I will try to look at some of the individual sites for testimonials as I had not done that yet as I was hoping for a little more independence!

Try googling a local real estate agent, we found a self contained quite new house at Coles Bay through agent there on the afternoon we arrived through agent. Freycinet Villas - good view of the Hazards, very reasonably priced.

Thanks Pat. This is exactly what I was seeking some first hand experience. I do have the Villas on my list so will take another look.
Any comment about staying at Coles Bay vs Swansea. There are a couple of possibles in the Swansea area so we could drive to Freycinet, which we will have to do regardless. Would we be disappointed that we didn't stay closer?

We stayed at Swansea, it's about a 45-50 minute drive to Freycinet National Park. The advantage of staying there is that there are a number of different places to eat (Banc was great), but maybe self-catering that's not a big issue?
From there we made day trips to Richmond and Freycinet National Park.
We had two days at the National Park, but one day would have been enough. There aren't that many different walks in the area. The longer ones tend to just build on the shorter ones.

Hi John, there's such a nice restaurant in Coles Bay, Madge Malloys, it would be a shame to miss it. If you google it you'll see some great reviews.
and for eating at "home", drive to Freycinet Marine Farm and pick up the wonderful mussels, oysters, crayfish and buy some good bread from the bakery.

Hello John, we too stayed in Coles Bay - from memory booked through a local agent of some sort? Will try and find details but there weren't many businesses there so try and google... we had a three bedroom home for three nights and it was lovely. Can't comment on Swansea.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Ozgirl, it would be great if you can recall where u stayed. I am not short of "listings' just first hand information on whether they are as good as they seem! Having found the posting referribng to their booking as a "dump" I am being super cautious as I want this to be one of the highlights of the trip.
Pat, the fresh seafood and bread sounds wonderful. Just what I would seek out!

Hi again John, I found it...
http://www.freycinetrentals.com/index.htm - we stayed in the one called "the Views" (2 bedroom not 3 as I said previously.)
It was not luxurious but very comfortable and had nice water views (not absolute waterfront but very short walk.)
It was also not far from the shops and a short drive (or you probably could walk) to Freycinet National Park from where one can walk to Wineglass Bay.
Good luck.
