Fox Glacier or Franz Joseph Glacier?

Which is a better location to spend one night in October?? Is one town easier to get around by foot? What about hotels?? We will arrive and leave by bus. Thanks

Both are just as nice as each other. I stayed at Fox Glacier in 1999 and it was beautiful. very small town so therefore very easy to get around on foot. we stayed in a hotel just out of town so probably not suitable for you. Perhaps the tourist board would provide helpful information?

franz josef is bigger than fox. but that's relative. both are very small towns and easily navigated by foot (the main street in both towns are about a city block long). we stayed in fj. fj has more selection in accomodations and restaurants. in october, i believe it would be fairly easy to walk into town and get a room right away. both towns have tourist info centers, so they can book activities for you very easily.

Hi Tourist <BR>Visiting Franz Joseph in October you will be outside the tourist season (December to May)and youwill be able to get off the bus, go to the information centre and have a choice of accommodation in the price range you are looking for. Remember these are not towms but rather villages consisting of tourist accommodation. It has a number of motels, motor lodges & hotels. Unless you are arriving late at night - don't worry just turn up.
